Do it Yourself Homemade Laundry Detergent
I'm Lovin It!
I'ts like cooking, and kinda like being a scientist experimenting with liquids and stuff, very cool. But also very cool, because there are no chemicals going into my laundry hence going into my clothes and then further hence going onto my families bodies.
First you need a bar of Fels-Naptha soap. Or if your feeling really saucy and tree hoggish then go get some lavender hemp soap bar from a health food store.
Grate the soap with a grater (I got one at the dollar store just for this, i don't want to be mixing my food stuff with my laundry stuff) Melt the soap in a pot ( i got a cheap pot at a thrift store near me) with four cups of water. Make sure the soap is melted all the way about 10 min.
When the soap is melted, pour it into a 5 gallon bucket. Then add 1 cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (not baking soda people).
Then add 1/2 cup of Borax. And at this point you can add some essential oils, like lavender or orange. You use around 40 drops of essential oils.
Fill the rest of the bucket with water and stir until everything is dissolved. Then let it sit overnight until it gels up.
After you let it sit overnight you can use an immersion blender to blend it up to the consistency of the store bought laundry detergent. you can dilute this again by using another bucket and dividing the laundry soap evenly then filling each with water. Or you can pour half into a container and filling the rest with water. Or if you family is really dirty just leave it as is. This can make 5 gallons or 10 gallons. Play around with it and see what works for you. This will probably last around 6 months and save a ton of money.
